Memory Cafe, Worthing - first since lockdown

Date: 19-May-2021

First Memory Café since Lockdown forms part of Dementia Action Week 2021

Dementia Friendly Worthing and Guild Care have come together during Dementia Action Week in May to arrange Worthing’s first Memory Café since the lockdown. With most carers and people with dementia now being vaccinated, and with social distancing regulations slightly more relaxed, it was felt the opportunity was right to support the more vulnerable groups within our community with an in-person event.

Numbers will be strictly limited at the event on 19 May, but there is plenty of space at Guild Care’s Bradbury Wellbeing Centre, at Haviland House. If the weather is promising, the afternoon team can be enjoyed in the front garden where everyone can enjoy some of the lost elements of socialising while finding out about new local support services, activities, carers services and networks.

Staff at the wellbeing centre and Dementia Friendly Worthing are all experienced in helping people with dementia and their carers. The Memory Cafe is open to anyone caring for a person with dementia and their loved one whether they have been recently diagnosed, have early onset dementia, or who were diagnosed some years ago. Even if you think you might have dementia and want to find out more about what happens next, you are welcome to attend.

You can be reassured the Memory Café will be in a relaxed, caring and supportive environment but it is essential to book a place with Guild Care on 01903 528635 or by emailing If the uptake is high, places will unfortunately be limited.

There is some accessible transport available, but at the moment minibuses are limited to four passengers only so it is important to ask Jo about this when you book.

Thanks to funding from West Sussex County Council, the afternoon tea has been sponsored but transports costs are £10 per couple if required.
