Shared Lives

Shared Lives is an alternative service to the more traditional day or residential services for people living with dementia. It offers a bespoke service to any adult living with dementia in West Sussex who qualifies for a day (Day Share), or a respite service, from West Sussex County Council social care services.

It offers family carers a break within an assessed, approved, trained, and monitored Shared Lives Carers own home, the Shared Lives Scheme (a team of professionals and registered with the Care Quality Commission), match the person who needs care and support with a Shared Lives Carer who has relevant experience, knowledge and skills and who have similar hobbies and interests to the person who is in need of care and support.

This can be a single session of up to 6 hours during the day or for an occasional night or two, once the Shared Lives Carers and their guest are comfortable with the arrangement. The sessions can be used for anything from getting out and about sharing mutual interests and living an ordinary life.

Considerable time is taken to ensure the matching process is suitable for all concerned.
